Development of incoming tourism to the Czech Republic in 2008
From a tourism perspective, the year 2008 was greatly influenced by the strong Czech crown and, later, also by the economic recession. Despite these factors, as can be seen in data from the Czech Statistical Office, a total of 6,653,053 foreign tourists came to the Czech Republic last year. That means there was almost no change (−0.4%) in comparison to 2007. Likewise, the order of the first two places for the traditionally leading countries of Germany and Great Britain did not change from 2007. Nevertheless, the number of incoming tourists from both countries did decrease. Russia overtook Italy to rank third, recording more than 30% growth for the second successive year.Tourist arrivals in the Czech Republic for first three quarters of 2008
