Jindřichův Hradec has developed on the historical border between Bohemia, Moravia and Austria. The most significant sight of the town is the third largest chateau complex in the Czech Republic- a unique renaissance chateau, including a Gothic palace with valuable Gothic paintings, and a Roundel, which is thanks to its perfect acoustics a place of numerous concerts. In the centre of the town the municipal housing has mainly Empire appearance from the period after the devastating fire in 1801. The tower of the Church of Our lady dominates the town. Through its corner leads the 15th meridian. In the building of the former Jesuit seminary (today a museum) there is the so-called Kýza´s crèche, the biggest moving folklore crèche in the world. To the most important sights belong: the Church of St. John the Baptist with valuable frescoes and a former monitory monastery. Every year important festivals of classic and folk music take place in the town (Concertino Praga, Folk Rose).
